Bronze Age

Bronze weapons and tools originating about 6,000 years ago appear in local finds including axe-heads daggers and swords and also Bronze Age burials in stone lined cists with food vessels inhumed with the dead.

From the period of about 3,200 to 2600 years ago a period of greater sophistication of crafts developed and gold objects from this period occur both on the mainland area of DLR and Dalkey Island indicating advanced metalworking there. A large number of Fulacta fiadh ancient cooking sites are also present. As we come into the Iron Age period from about 600BC to 400AD often described as the Celtic period amazingly no artefacts are to be found in our area. However some of the hillforts and ringbarrows may be from this period.
