Cinemas

During 1930s and 1940s in Waterford everyone was a film fanatic. It was the heyday of the cinema. The cinema was the one of the few forms of entertainment available to people. Filmgoers learned about faraway places and events through the films and also through the Pathe and Movietone news bulletins which were shown either before or during the film interval. Cinemas provided a means of escape from the often impoverished and hard working lives of the ordinary people.
