Today many of us are unfamiliar with the term Turkish Bath and would probably find it difficult to define exactly what it is. In nineteenth century Britain and Ireland the majority of the population would have known precisely what was involved in the taking of such a bath.

The Turkish bath is described by the Waterford Turkish Bath Company as 'a Hot Air Bath, followed by the delightfully invigorating sensation experienced after a thorough cleansing of the pores of the skin, a comfortable wash in tepid water, and a subsequent cooling down in a pleasant airy chamber.'
