Pan de Jambon - Ham Bread
Recipe by Helena Paneyko
A traditional (and easy to make) dish from Venezuela, shared with family and friends over the Christmas holidays. I like it so much that I also make some during the year!
My parents usually bought them at a local bakery, until I learned how to make it. It has taking me sometime to "look" like the ones from the bakery. I would say it is a work in progress!
As you well know, friends and family are very forgiving...and I have seen the plate where I bring my pan de jamón empty in a couple of minutes!
Ingredients
Bread dough. You can also use pizza dough.
Cooked ham
Raisins
Olives
Butter
Yolk of an egg
Method
- Spread the dough as fine as possible.
- "Paint" it with butter.
- Place the ham in a way that it will cover all the surface
- Olives and Raisins on top of the ham, distributed randomly but covering as much space as possible. (You could add almonds or other ingredients if you wish).
- Fold the ends of the dough and roll it until you have like a bread/shape look.
- Make some perpendicular cuts on the surface and paint with egg yolk.
- Bake it in the oven at 190C (350F) for 30 minutes, and voilá!
- Enjoy!
