An Blascaod Mór was evacuated in 1953 due to a population decline bringing an end to an unique island community.

Swiss Cottage
The Swiss Cottage was constructed in the early 1800s by Richard Butler, 1st Earl Of Glengall and designed by Regency architect John Nash. The cottage contains a spiral staircase and beautifully appointed rooms featuring Dufour manufactured wallpaper. The site of the building was specially chosen for its elevated location and is visited by ascending a flight of stone steps.

Holy Island
Holy Island
Holy Island is one of the most famous monastic sites in Ireland. Its many attractions include a well preserved Round Tower, the ruins of seven churches, high crosses, some of the earliest inscription bearing grave markers in the Irish language, a holy well, bullaun stones, a bargaining stone and much more.Holy Island has been a centre of pilgrimage for over twelve hundred years. There are daily trips to holy Island from Mountshannon.

Blennerville is Ireland´s only commercially operated windmill. It is also the tallest of its kind in Europe: 21.3 metres high. This 18th century windmill is now open to the public. There are many fascinating workings to be seen as the giant sails turn. The adjoining building houses interesting exhibitions on emigration and The History of Milling.

St. Mary's Parochial House is situated in a late 18th century house in the church grounds of St. Mary's. It was the home of the Ingram, Arthur and Carr familes and from 1847 to 1982 it was the presbytery of St. Mary's parish. It was restored in 1997 as a parish centre.
