Civil Records
On the 1st January 1864 Civil Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages commenced in Ireland (registration of non-Roman Catholic marriages began in 1845) These records are available at the General Register Office in Dublin, where certificates or certified photocopies can be applied for. For full details see www.groireland.ie. The General Register Office does not carry out research
The Civil Records for Waterford are held locally at the Health Service Executive Offices, Cork Road, Waterford and also at St Joseph's Hospital, Dungarvan, County Waterford. Certificates may be obtained at these offices but the name, townland/street and approximate date of event must be supplied to ensure the correct certificate can be located in the registers. No public research facility is available at these offices.
The indexes for Births, Deaths and Marriages for Ireland from 1864 to 1958 can now be searched online at http://pilot.familysearch.org
Indexes to marriages for Ireland from 1845 to 1958 are also available on microfilm at Waterford City Library, Lady Lane, Waterford.
A copy of Marriage Registers for the county 1864 to circa 1910 is held (book format) at Waterford County Library, Dungarvan, County Waterford.
