The Regina

In 1957 twenty years after Martin Breen opened The Savoy, his son (also named Martin) decided to build a new super cinema. He built The Regina on the site of O'Brien's Modern Bakeries premises in Patrick Street. This cinema had a seating capacity of 1,500 and had one of the largest screens in Ireland. A new innovation was the installation of audio facilities for patrons with hearing defects. The Regina opened on 1st April 1957 with the film 'High Society' starring Grace Kelly.
