Section 3: Journeys Out of Ireland

Air transport
Children learn that air transport is the fastest way to travel long distances. Children are led to consider how aeroplanes can carry large numbers of people.

They learn about airports in Ireland and what routes aeroplanes from these travel to.

Sea transport
Water transport gives examples of canals, rivers and seas as well as ports..

Children find out about ferries and   ferry routes.

 Plan a journey activity - Children plan a journey and consider different types of public transport.

Section 4: Transport Infrastructure

This section looks at road networks. It gives examples of motorways and explains what a bypass is. Children are also introduced to maps symbols for roads. (This section is suitable for the more able children of this level.)

Section 5: Safety  

Safe cross code video clip. Safe cross activity game. How to be safe as a pedestrian and as a cyclist.   Downloadable section for parents on being safe going to school.

Section 6 :. Environment and Transport

This section is suitable for more advanced pupils at this level or for older children.

It looks at carbon dioxide and notes how this is an unwanted by-product of transport. Some tips about helping the environment.

Section 7 :.Transport in The Past

Transport in the Past-Grandparents’ time and greatgrandparents. Images of old cars and trams. Visual evidence showing Bray train station long ago and old train tickets. These could be printed and used in an improvised drama. Oral history-children can hear an older person describe transport in the past.
