Adenda and Acknowledgements

Adendum I

Thomas FitzGerald conformed on the 12th October, 1766. He was still living at "Cartunna", Co. Kerry. Pressure from Foster's 'information' probably expediated his conversion. When Thomas voted in the 1761 county elections he defied the penal laws as 'Catholics had been deprived of the vote since 1727. Thomas's conformity is listed in B.L. Egerton 77.52. T.J.B.

Addendum II (A Note on Money

"Multiplying eighteenth-century sums by at least sixty will give a rough guide. An income then of £300 ($420) a year might be said to have been worth £18,000 ($25,600) in 1986" - Hibbert, Christopher: The English: A Social History 1066-1945, London, Harper Collins, 1994, xi.

Thus Edmond's accumulated debts of £15,000 by December 1750 would be equal to over £900,000 at present. T.J.B.
