Rex Beaumont

Rex B. Beaumont, born in Yorkshire in 1914, served in the RAF during World War 11. He met Col Howard-Bury while he was travelling as Assistant Commissioner of the British Red Cross during the 1940's. For over thirty years he was friend and companion to Howard-Bury and inherited Belvedere on his death.

Rex. B. Beaumont was the last private owner of Belvedere. Westmeath County Council purchased the estate from him in 1982. In 2000, following a multi-million pound restoration project involving the Irish Tourist Board and Westmeath County Council, the House, Walled Gardens, parkland and other amenities were opened to the public.
